The tail light is one of the most exposed electrical components on a lawn mower, and the grille in front of it has a demanding job: it has to protect the lamp, let the light pass through cleanly, and survive vibration, debris and sunlight over seasons of outdoor work. The PC tail light grille shown here is a custom molded part developed for exactly this environment.
At Maifeng Precision Industry, we specialize in custom mold development and precision injection molding for high-performance plastic components. This lawn mower tail light grille is manufactured with PC material, offering excellent light transmission, impact resistance, and durability for demanding outdoor applications. This article looks at the material choice, the mold behind the part, and the production workflow from molding to packing.

Polycarbonate (PC) combines properties that few other plastics offer at the same time. It transmits light efficiently, so the grille does not dim the tail light behind it. It resists impact far better than acrylic or general-purpose styrenics, which matters on a machine that kicks up stones, branches and clippings. And it keeps its shape and clarity through the temperature swings and UV exposure that outdoor power equipment has to endure.
For the molder, PC also brings processing requirements: it is molded at higher melt temperatures than commodity plastics, needs thorough drying before molding to avoid silver streaks, and demands a mold built to hold tight tolerances. Handling these details correctly is what separates a stable production run from a batch of warped or cloudy parts.
The grille is an open frame with toothed edges that shape and soften the light output. A frame like this concentrates material flow along a narrow, closed loop, so the mold design has to balance the filling pattern carefully to avoid weld lines at the corners and warpage along the long sides. Gate location, runner layout and cooling channels are all planned around the frame geometry before steel is cut.
Our mold workflow covers mold design, CNC machining, mold testing and mass production. The trial stage verifies filling, dimensional accuracy and demolding behavior; only after the mold passes testing does it move into stable volume production. Because the mold is designed and built in-house, revisions during development stay fast and controlled.

In production, the grille is molded on our injection machines and the parts are then inspected and packed for delivery. Each part is checked for dimensions, surface clarity and edge quality before it goes into the box – a simple but disciplined process that keeps quality consistent from the first shipment to the fiftieth.
This grille serves lawn mowers and carries over naturally to other outdoor power equipment – garden tractors, tillers and similar machines that need a durable, light-transmitting cover over lamps and indicators. Beyond the grille itself, we support complete plastic component sets for outdoor power products, from housings and covers to structural parts.
Whether you have a finished 3D model or just a concept sketch, our team can review the structure, propose material and mold solutions, and take the part through development to mass production as a one-stop service.
