Tea brewed loose in the same vessel it is drunk from only works if the brewer decides when the leaves stop steeping. The lid shown here makes that decision mechanical: a rotating disc inside the cap opens and closes the water channel, so steeping runs sealed and drinking starts on a quarter turn. The leaves stay behind a filter screen the whole time.
Four photographs cover the assembly with its stainless filter basket, the rotating disc with its cut-outs inside the cap, the closed exterior, and the filter seated in place. The cap moulds in a light resin with a soft loop handle; the rotating disc moulds in a contrasting colour so its position reads at a glance.

The disc inside the cap carries a shaped cut-out that aligns with the drinking channel in one position and blocks it a quarter turn away. The geometry is simple; the tolerances are not. The disc has to turn with a firm, defined action, seal closed against tea holding pressure and heat, and line up open without wobble that would let leaves past. The disc and its seat are moulded to each other, and the running clearance between them is the single most important dimension on the part.
Position feel comes from detents moulded into the seat: the disc settles into open and closed with a click rather than floating between them. A lid whose position drifts undetected either leaks leaves into the cup or, worse, seals during transport and builds pressure that releases through the channel in a spill.

The stainless basket holds the leaves off the drinking channel entirely. Its mesh does the filtering; the cap’s job is to hold it in place, sealed, so leaves cannot ride around the edge into the drink. The basket clips into a moulded seat with a defined retention, and its rim carries the sealing face against the cap rather than relying on gravity, because a steeping cup gets tipped.
Separating filter from mechanism this way also separates the maintenance: the basket lifts out and washes, the cap’s rotating seat stays clean of leaf debris, and the two failure modes, clogging and stiffness, are handled by different cleaning actions.

A cap with a rotating internal disc is two moulded parts designed as one. Wall thickness through the seat is held even so neither part warps out of round, because an oval seat turns roughly no matter how good the disc is. The soft loop handle overmoulds onto the cap body through mechanical windows, and the seal ring seats in a defined groove rather than sitting loose in a recess.

Rotating torque and detent feel, cycled across a sample from each lot. Closed-position seal under hot water, the vessel laid on its side. Leaf exclusion, steeped with real tea and inspected. Basket retention and seal, and loop pull strength above a full vessel’s weight.
Kunshan Maifeng Precision Industry Co., Ltd. reviews functional closure designs before quoting, builds the injection molds in house, and molds single-color and dual-color parts on 36 machines from 90 to 700 tons. Send us the vessel drawing and the steeping requirement, and we will come back with a feasibility comment and a tooling proposal.
