Two openings on one lid sound like a complication until you watch how a sports bottle is actually used: small sips from the bottle held upright, and big pours when filling a cup or the dog’s bowl. The lid shown here serves both. A small screw cap opens the drink-through port on top; a side flip cover opens the wide mouth underneath; a foldable loop carries the bottle. Three openings, three closure types, one moulded cap.
The photographs show it in grey and white, closed, opened, and from the underside. The underside view is the one that explains the sealing: each opening has its own sealing feature, engineered for its own duty.

The drink-through port opens by twisting a small cap with a moulded knurled grip, and this is the closure that gets exercised: twisted open and shut every time the bottle is sipped. Its thread is short and square, chosen for a half-turn action rather than the deep multi-start engagement a full seal would need, because the real seal lives underneath at the port seat. The cap hangs on its own tether when open, moulded into the hinge region, so it cannot be set down on a bench and forgotten.
That half-turn choice is worth stating. A full-turn thread on a daily-use cap turns a one-hand operation into two, and one-hand operation is the entire point of a drink-through port.

The wide mouth under the flip cover serves filling and pouring. Its cover works on a living hinge and closes onto a seat with a defined interference, and because this opening carries liquid in bulk, its sealing seat is sized for sloshing and tipping rather than for sipping pressure. The two closures are not interchangeable in design: the small cap optimizes for daily twisting, the flip cover for occasional high-flow sealing.
The hinge zone is gated to flow across it, and the cover’s end stops are moulded so the hinge is never over-flexed by a hand in a hurry, which is how most living hinges actually die.

The loop folds flat against the cap for packing and stands for carrying, with its root section profiled to spread the stress of a full bottle. It shares the living-hinge logic of the flip cover: root thickness tuned so it stands firmly and folds without fighting, and gated so the packing reaches the root, the last place to fill and the place that decides the part.

Screw cap action and its tether retention, cycled past the rating. Flip cover hinge life and seat seal, tested with the bottle tipped and squeezed. Loop fold-cycle and pull strength above a full bottle’s weight. Both colour versions matched against their masters, and the thread gauged with the actual bottle mouth.
Kunshan Maifeng Precision Industry Co., Ltd. reviews multi-function closure designs before quoting, builds the injection molds in house, and molds single-color and dual-color parts on 36 machines from 90 to 700 tons. Send us the bottle drawing and the usage pattern, and we will come back with a feasibility comment and a tooling proposal.
