This gloss black bezel is the trim frame of a car’s navigation and control stack — the curved frame that surrounds the screen and the row of buttons below it, with horizontal slats across the openings. Everything about it is cosmetic and everything about it is structural at the same time: the visible face carries a high-gloss finish, the back face carries the buckles and posts that locate it in the dashboard.
The part is injection molded in a gloss black resin with built-in positioning buckles. This page covers the gloss surface, the curved frame, the buckles, and what to confirm before starting.

A high-gloss black face is the least forgiving surface in interiors. It reads flow marks that a textured part would hide, it shows sink over every internal rib, and it picks up swirl from the polish of the steel itself. The cavity therefore runs the full polish ladder down to a diamond stage, gates are placed so the flow front reaches the curved top evenly, and wall thickness behind the visible face is kept uniform — because every thickness change is a future sink mark. First articles are inspected under two raking lights from the angles a seated driver actually sees.
The honest trade is scratch behaviour. Gloss wipes clean better than texture, but a key or a ring across it leaves a mark, so the resin is specified for scratch performance and the part ships individually bagged.

The bezel follows the dashboard’s curve, which means the part is shaped, but its mounting plane is defined by a set of points that must land exactly where the dash expects them. Warp on a part like this is not a cosmetic issue — it is a fit issue: a bezel twisted by half a degree stands proud at one corner and gaps at the other. The mold cools the part symmetrically, the frame’s back ribs are balanced left to right, and the first check is a fixture fit, not a measurement — the part either drops into the dash fixture or it does not.
The slats add a wrinkle: they are thin, exposed on both faces, and their alignment to the stack centreline is checked visually, because an eye reads a skewed slat instantly.

The positioning buckles do two jobs at once. They snap the bezel into the carrier, and they take up the dash’s own tolerance — the small variation between dashboards that would otherwise show up as a visible step at the bezel edge. Floating slots on some buckle feet let the frame shift a fraction before locking, so the visible gap reads even all round even when the carrier is not. This kind of forgiveness is designed in: the slot sizes came from measuring a batch of carriers, not from the nominal drawing.
Screw-free assembly also means the bezel can be serviced without tools — a consideration when the screen behind it is the part most likely to be replaced.
