This white housing is the shell of a home router, molded as a single C-shaped wrap. Instead of a top and bottom bolted together, one molding curves around the electronics — the flat top with its antenna window, the two rounded sides, and the open face that closes onto a separate chassis. Rounded corners everywhere, a dot-grid vent field on one face, and windows for ports and indicators cut where the boards need them.
The shell is injection molded in white with a soft matte texture. This page covers the one-piece wrap, the vent field, RF considerations, and what to confirm before quoting.

A wrap shell changes the assembly. There is no screw line down the middle of the product and no visible parting on the top face — the cosmetic surfaces are single pieces of plastic, and the only joint is where the shell closes onto the chassis at the back. The trade is draft and flexibility: a C-section must flex over the chassis during assembly, so the open face carries relief slots that let the walls spring without whitening, and the wall thickness is tuned so the grip is firm but installable by hand. Snap ribs on the inner face locate onto the chassis posts.
The shape also needs real draft on the side walls — a few degrees, which is why the product reads as softly rounded rather than slab-sided. The rounding is engineering, not styling.

The dot-grid on the face is a mesh of small through-holes, and each hole is a mold feature: dozens of tiny core pins that must survive production and keep the holes clear. The grid is sized with the thermal calculation — enough open area to dump the heat from the board, small enough in diameter that the face still reads as a clean surface. Holes are relieved on the inside so nothing bridges them, and the grid sits away from the indicator window so the light reads through a solid, undrilled area.
The window at the top is the RF story. Antennas want to sit behind plastic, not metal, and the whole shell is intentionally metal-free — no shielding paint, no conductive fillers — so the window frame is simply a molded opening with the clips for the antenna module behind it.

White plastics age visibly — yellowing is the classic router failure — so the resin is specified with UV stabilization and the natural tone is matched to the customer’s colour chip, checked after a heat-aging sample. The matte texture hides fingerprints and the fine swirl that a gloss white would show, but it still needs even packing: texture does not forgive sink over the internal bosses, it just makes it less obvious in photos.
Flatness on the base matters for a desktop product that should not rock. The base lands on four feet, and the shell is checked on a flat plate before it ships.

Kunshan Maifeng Precision Industry Co., Ltd. molds network device housings like this shell in house, from wrap-section tooling through colour and aging checks, on machines from 90 to 700 tons. Send us the PCB layout and the colour chip, and we will come back with a section proposal and a tooling quotation.
