A straw lid and a sip lid look similar closed and behave completely differently open. A straw lid keeps a tube standing in the flow path, which changes everything about how it seals, how it opens and what happens when the bottle is squeezed. The lid shown here is a matte-black flip-straw cap with an integrated carry loop, built as a replacement for outdoor insulated bottles.
Three views show the straw raised, the underside with its sealing stack, and the lid closed. The straw pivots up on a moulded hinge, locks into drinking position, and seals against the underside stack when flipped down.

A sip cover closes over a hole in the top surface. A straw passes through one. That difference drives the underside design: the straw’s lower end has to seat into a socket that seals around it, while a separate vent lets air in as liquid leaves, or the flow stutters after the first sip. The socket, not the cover, is what makes a straw lid leakproof, and its fit is built to the straw’s actual dimensions rather than a nominal bore.
The straw itself is a moulded tube, square outside and round inside. The square section is what the fingers push, and it also stops the tube rolling in its seat; the round bore is what the drink actually flows through, chosen for cleaning as much as for flow.

The straw pivots on a living hinge gated to flow across the hinge zone, and its travel ends in a moulded detent that holds it upright under its own stiffness. A straw that flops mid-drink is worse than no straw, so the detent force is set for the weight of the tube plus the liquid inside it, not just the tube. Closing is a firm push that seats the straw into its socket, with the cover geometry guiding it rather than relying on aim.
Outdoor use adds a wrinkle: grit. A socket that seals perfectly clean can leak with a grain of sand on the seat, so the seat geometry is kept shallow and wipeable rather than deep and trapping, which is a deliberate trade for this market.

The loop is moulded into the body, with its roots landing on the lid shoulder where the section is thickest. It lies flat against the dome when not in use and stands for carrying, and its stiffness is tuned at the root the same way the straw hinge is: enough to hold a full bottle’s weight, enough give not to snap when it is yanked from a backpack pocket.
Straw detent force and seat seal, tested with the straw cycled past its rating. Leakproof performance with the lid closed and the bottle squeezed and tipped. Flow behaviour while drinking, checked so the vent does its job. Loop load test, and matte surface appearance against the approved master, since matte finishes show scuffs that gloss hides.
Kunshan Maifeng Precision Industry Co., Ltd. reviews drinkware closure designs before quoting, builds the injection molds in house, and molds single-color and dual-color parts on 36 machines from 90 to 700 tons. Send us the bottle mouth drawing and the straw specification, and we will come back with a feasibility comment and a tooling proposal.
