A thermos lid leads two lives: it screws down tight enough to hold boiling water and pressure overnight, and then it spends the day being picked up by its handle. The lid shown here does both. It is a threaded screw-on cap in black resin with a stainless disc set into the top, a silicone gasket ring for the seal, and a soft overmoulded handle loop where the hand carries it.
The three views show the side with the handle raised, the top with the stainless disc and gasket, and the front profile. The handle is soft material moulded over a hard core, which is what lets it carry a full bottle’s weight without the loop flexing unpleasantly in the hand.

On a vacuum bottle the thread is a clamp, not just a connector. Tightening the lid compresses the gasket ring against the bottle mouth, and the clamp force comes from the thread engagement, so thread form, depth and length all matter to the seal. A thread that is too shallow or too short never develops enough clamp; one that is oversized makes the lid hard to start and prone to cross-threading at the first hurried attempt.
The thread is moulded, and its release from the core decides the tooling: an unscrewing mechanism for a full-depth form, or a jump-off form where the application allows. Both routes are workable, but the choice is made before the tool is built because it changes the price and the cycle.

The metal disc in the lid top is set into a moulded recess. It looks like decoration and it works like one too: the disc takes the scuffs and the heat that a bare resin top would collect, and it gives the lid a finished look that survives dishwashers. The recess is dimensioned so the disc seats with a light interference, and the lip that retains it is moulded in the same shot, so nothing rattles and nothing needs adhesive.
The detail that matters is thermal movement. Metal and resin expand at different rates, and a disc pressed into a recess that ignores this will load the lip every time the bottle goes from hot to cold. The fit is designed with that movement in it, which is a one-line decision at the drawing stage and an audible rattle if it is skipped.

The loop is moulded soft over a hard insert core, and the two materials divide the work. The hard core carries the load of a full bottle; the soft jacket is what the fingers meet. Moulding the soft material through windows in the core locks the two together mechanically, so the jacket cannot slide or peel under a swinging bottle.
The loop’s standing action, up for carrying, flat for storage, comes from root geometry at the hinge, tuned the same way as any living hinge. Root thickness too great and it will not lie down; too little and it flops or fatigues.
Seal integrity under heat: the lid closed on a bottle with hot water, laid on its side and left, then inspected. Thread torque to reach full engagement, checked against the target window. Retention of the stainless disc after thermal cycling. Handle pull strength well above a full bottle’s weight, and the loop’s standing action cycled.
