An upper liner cover is the kind of part nobody notices until it fails. Clipped over the upper edge of a seat liner or an interior mechanism, it carries slotted openings for ventilation, snap clips for retention, and edges that get touched and brushed every day. It must stay rigid in a hot cabin, resist wear where the clips engage, and keep its precise shape so the fit never loosens over years of use. This project covers how we mold such a part in PA66+GF, from multi-cavity tooling to mass production and packing.
The part shown here is a custom upper liner cover molded in glass-fiber-reinforced PA66. The customer required high strength, heat and aging resistance, and a stable clip fit – a combination that points directly at PA66+GF and a carefully built multi-cavity mold.

An upper liner cover works hard for a decorative part. Its clips are opened and closed during service, its edges are handled, and inside a vehicle it lives with heat, sunlight and vibration. Glass-fiber-reinforced PA66 answers all three demands: the fiber carries mechanical load so thin walls stay stiff, the material keeps its properties at elevated temperature and over long aging, and – most importantly for this part – it offers excellent wear resistance at the clip engagement surfaces.
The glass fiber also brings low shrinkage, which is what keeps the cover dimensionally stable from the first shot to the ten-thousandth. Because the slots, clips and mounting holes are all formed in the same tool from the same lot of material, they shrink together – so the fit the customer approved in the first article is the fit that arrives in every carton.
This cover is produced in a multi-cavity mold, with a full production tray of parts coming out in every cycle. Multi-cavity tooling is how unit cost comes down, but it also raises the bar for the mold maker: every cavity must produce a part that is dimensionally identical, or downstream assembly sees differences between parts from the same shot.
To hold that consistency, the runner system is balanced so every cavity fills at the same rate, cooling is symmetrical so every part shrinks the same way, and the cavity and core steels in the clip and slot areas are hardened against the abrasive glass-filled material. The result is visible in the production tray below: rows of parts that are interchangeable, cycle after cycle.

The long slots across the top of the cover are not decoration – they ventilate the liner while keeping dust and objects out, so their edges must be clean and free of flash. The side clips are the functional heart of the part: they must snap on with a positive click, hold firmly against vibration, and release without whitening or cracking the glass-filled material.
That balance – stiff enough to hold, tough enough to clip – is tuned in the mold. During trials we assemble covers onto the mating liner, check the closing gap and the release force, and adjust clip dimensions in steel until the feel is right. Only then does the tool go into mass production.
After molding, the covers are inspected for slot edge quality, clip dimensions and surface appearance, then packed in cartons as shown in the video above. Because the parts are rigid and nest well, they ship densely packed and arrive ready for the customer’s assembly line without re-sorting or secondary handling.

The same material system and tooling approach serve a wider family of parts: automotive interior covers and trim clips, protective covers for electronics, and structural caps for home appliances and industrial equipment. Wherever a cover needs to survive repeated handling, elevated temperature and a precise clip fit, PA66+GF with a well-built multi-cavity mold is a proven answer.
If you have a drawing or a sample, we review the structure for moldability, quote the mold and the molded parts, and run production in-house – mold development, injection molding, inspection and packing under one roof. First articles are supplied for assembly trials before the mold is finalized, and logo marking can be molded directly into the part.
